Edinburgh Castle is a world famous land mark in the heart of the city, perched on an extinct volcano and cared for by Historic Scotland.

It is open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The Castle is the home of the famous Military Tattoo which is held in August.

A fascinating historical landmark with glorious views of the Edinburgh skyline. There is enough to see in the Castle to fill a whole day, The Honours of Scotland (The Nations Crown Jewels). The Stone of Destiny, (the Coronation Stone of the Ancient Kings of Scotland ).

There is the Great Hall, The Laigh Hall, Kings Dining Room and St Margaret's Chapel. Walk through these marvellous medieval rooms where Kings and Queens and great nobles wined and dined.

Thousands of military prisoners were held in the Castle over the centuries and

there is now a major recreation of what it was like at the end of the 18 th Century when men of many nations languished in its vaults and listen to the famous One O'clock Gun with its daily signal, keeping the time pieces of Edinburgh residents correct!
