The Real Mary King's Close consists of a number of Closes which were originally narrow streets with housing on either side some stretching as high as 7 stories.

In the year 1753 the borough council of the day decided after much thought to develop a new building on this site, it was to be called the Royal Exchange, now the Edinburgh City Chambers. The houses at the top of the Close were knocked down but part of the lower sections were kept and used as the foundations of the new building.

Dark and ancient dwellings steeped in mystery. Following research, evidence has been uncovered about the lives of the real people who lived there, and now you can hear their stories. You will see historically accurate interpretation of life in Edinburgh from the 16 th to the 19 th century and be guided through the underground streets by one of the characters of the past.

Your guide will reveal dramatic episodes and extraordinary apparitions from the past and tell you some ghost stories that are over 300 years old. A really exciting and interesting experience which is well worth a visit. 189 words.
