Getting Around Edinburgh

    Below we have compiled a comprehensive Arrival Guide for our Guests who have already booked with us. It may also serve as a handy resource for those contemplating their future trip to Edinburgh and Barony House: 


    FROM EDINBURGH AIRPORT

    TAXI

    Taxi’s are the best and most efficient way to get to us. Taxi’s can be caught from Edinburgh Airport, reservation is not required. Taxi journeys will take approx 30 minutes and cost around £35 – £40 to our front door. By International standards, Edinburgh Black London Hackney Taxis are cheap to use and most are being converted to electric. They are also an attraction unto themselves and are very comfortable. We also have a Taxi Butler Service in our lobby – press our high priority Taxi Button and presto – you can summon a Taxi at will.

    BUS

    AIRPORT BUS ‘Skylink’ 100 into Princes St then change buses to head south on any of these bus numbers: 29, 31, 3, 7, 8, 49, 37

    From the bus stops heading Southbound over North Bridge , take either a 3, 29, 31, 37, 49 bus.

    Find the main entrance to ” Marks and Spencer ” along Princes Street where you will have a choice of 2 bus stops next to each other. Most of our bus numbers can be caught from there. This photo might be handy:

    The bus will make a right turn into North Bridge and  you will travel for approximately 1 mile.

    Ask the driver to stop at the ‘Peel Terrace’ bus stop on Mayfield Gardens.

    We are located on the other side of the road.

     FROM WAVERLEY TRAIN STATION

    TAXI

    Taxi’s are the best and most efficient way to get to us. Taxi’s can be caught from The Train Station, reservation is not required. Taxi journeys will take approx 8-10 minutes and cost around £8 – £9 to our front door. By International standards, Edinburgh Black London Hackney Taxis are cheap to use and most are being converted to electric. They are also an attraction unto themselves and are very comfortable. We also have a Taxi Butler Service in our lobby – press our high priority Taxi Button and presto – you can summon a Taxi at will.

    BUS

    Cost: £2.00 Adult Single or £5.00 Adult ‘DAY ticket’ (unlimited travel on all buses)

    Walk up the street onto Princes Street and cross over to the other side where the stores and shops are.

    Find the main entrance to ” Marks and Spencer ” along Princes Street where you will have a choice of 2 bus stops next to each other. Most of our bus numbers can be caught from there. This photo might be handy:

    From the bus stops heading Southbound over North Bridge , take either a 3, 29, 31, 37, 47 bus. The bus will make a right turn into North Bridge and  you will travel for approximately 1 mile.

    Ask the driver to stop at the ‘Peel Terrace’ bus stop on Mayfield Gardens.

    Get off the bus when it stops, we are located on the other side of the road. Exact Change is required or else you can use any card to buy your ticket on the bus.

    ARRIVING BY CAR

    We are situated on the A701 – 20 Mayfield Gardens, Edinburgh EH9 2BZ

    From the South (M6): take the A74 then A720. Leave the bypass at Straiton Junction on to the A701 and travel towards Edinburgh for approximately 2.5 miles.  You will go down a steep hill (Liberton Brae) and through a set of lights at the bottom.  You will pass Cameron Toll shopping centre on your right and head on up Craigmillar Park for another quarter of a mile. The road then changes to Mayfield Gardens and we are on the left.

    From the M1: take the A68 then A7 then A701. Then as above in blue.

    From Glasgow (M8): take Edinburgh South and East A720 and exit at Straiton Junction onto the A701. Then as above in blue.

    From Edinburgh Airport: follow the M8 to Edinburgh interchange. Follow signs for A720 and exit at Straiton Junction onto the A701. Then as above in blue.

    From the North (M90): After you have crossed the Forth Road Bridge follow the signs for the City Bypass A720 and then proceed as for Glasgow arrivals.

    Parking: We are the closest location for free parking to the city centre. We have free car & motorcycle parking available for reservation read more HERE. There is also plenty of free parking in the surrounding streets only a couple of minute’s walk away (Ventnor Terrace, Glenorchy Terrace and Mentone Gardens). We can help you on where you need to go when you arrive.

    Barony House Edinburgh Location

    Don’t forget to visit Craigmillar Castle during your stay – it’s a real hidden gem!
